WHO WE ARE

West Cork Carers Support Group has been supporting family Carers since 1998.

The guiding principles of our work with Carers are to

• Gain recognition for the invaluable work being done by family Carers in society
• Provide a voice for Carer issues and


• To lobby for improvements in services and supports on behalf of Carers
• Work in partnership with the voluntary & statutory to further the interests of Carers

The West Cork Carers Support Group recognises the varying backgrounds and different experiences of care. Each caring experience is unique and whether it lasts for a few weeks or a lifetime is specific to the persons involved.

In this regard we provide supports to Carers of older persons, to parents and family members of children or adults with disabilities and to Carers of persons experiencing mental distress.

The WCCSG aims to give Carers an opportunity to meet, share information and find support through a plethora of services designed at reaching Carers in their own homes and communities. These services include our lo-call support line, support group meetings, seminars, drop in service, Carer courses and respite services

Staff:

Olivia Andrews - Administrator.

All staff are based at the Group’s Centre in Bridge Street, Bantry, Co Cork.

Management Committee
The Board is constituted of four Carers, representing different caring experiences and different areas of West Cork. They are: Louise Casey, Margaret O'Sullivan, Marion White and Cathy Buttimer.

There are two representatives from the voluntary/community sector: Alison Steeds, Rehabcare and Anne O’Donovan Development Manager West Cork Citizens Information Services.

In addition there are two reps from the HSE West Cork Community Services: Gina Kelly, Community Worker and Violet Hayes, Director of Public Health Nursing. The HSE reps on the Board hold non-directorial positions.

The WCCSG is a limited company. Officership of the Board are as follows: Chairperson - Cathy Buttimer, Vice Chair –Anne O'Donovan,
Secretary - Olivia Andrews and Treasurer- Margaret O'Sullivan.

Funding: The West Cork Carers Support Group is core funded by the HSE – Southern Area.
