MOVING FORWARD
The original submission for funding to the HSE was based on consultation with Carers throughout West Cork over a two year period and had the following targets:
- Establishment of a Respite fund
- Recruitment of a locally based worker
- Development of an outreach and support service to young Carers.
The submission was successful in securing funding towards the recruitment of an outreach worker and development of a Respite fund.
In 2004 the HSE in conjunction with the WCCSG conducted a detailed evaluation of the work undertaken. The evaluation report provided information on the work carried out by the WCCSG to support Carers in the period 2000-2003.
It examined the work of the WCCSG and evaluated it vis-à-vis the organisations stated objectives, and its impact as identified by Carers and healthcare professionals. Strategically it identified a number of key recommendations for the next phase of funding.
- That the WCCSG consolidate and develop strategic links with voluntary and community organisations.
- That the WCCSG increase its services and develop a presence where it is not currently active.
- That the WCCSG explore different models of respite support.
- That the HSE continues providing support to the WCCSG.
- That the HSE continues to fund the WCCSG.
In 2007 the WCCSG again consulted with Carers and stakeholders in reviewing work done to date and developing a strategic plan for the organisation over the period 2007- 2012.
