Dunmanway Support Group Meeting
On Thursday 4th April there will be a talk by Catherine Cahalane, Cardiovascular Public Health Nurse on ‘Carers Health and Well-Being’. Carers Health Checks will also be available.

Beara Support Group Meeting
All family Carers are welcome to attend a Coffee Morning on Monday 8th April in the Adult Education Centre in Castletownbere from 10.30 – 12.30.
There will be a talk on Holistic Health and acupuncture by Joanna Riddell BSc (Hons) Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture & Human Biosciences.

Bantry Coffee Morning
West Cork Carers Support Group will be hosting a Coffee morning in our office in Bridge Street in Bantry on Wednesday 17th April from 10.30am – 12.30pm
There will be a talk by the Citizens Information Service about Carers Benefits
and Entitlements.

Alzheimer’s /Dementia Support Group
West Cork Carers Support Group in conjunction with Alzheimer's Society of Ireland will be holding a Coffee morning on Wednesday 24th April at the Cara House Meeting Room, Market Street, Skibbereen from 10.30am - 12.30pm.
Horgan's Pharmacy will be giving a talk regarding the managment of Medication with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia.

Pilates and Relaxation Course
Relax, have fun and get fit with a 6 week
Pilates course starting Thursday 2nd May.
Venue: Quality Hotel, Clonakilty.

Cookery Demonstration at Lettercollum House
Come and join us for a morning's demonstration on 'Healthy Seasonal Eating', followed by a tour of the walled garden and a delicious lunch.
Date: Wednesday 22nd May Time: 10am - 2pm

Cost: €20

Therapeutic Hand Care Training Course
Facilitated by The Irish Red Cross, this one-day certificated training course in Therapeutic Hand Care is an opportunity to learn the specialised techniques of Hand Massage & Manicure. The treatment is a way to communicate care through touch. The relaxing effect of the massage is very beneficial, especially for those who have painful and stiff joints; it can improve flexibility and suppleness. The manicure can give a great boost to morale.
Date: Saturday 25th May Time: 10am – 4pm
Venue: West Cork Carers Support Group office, Bridge Street, Bantry.
Fee: Normally €65, however, we are pleased to be able to offer this course at a subsidised rate of €20 to Carers including a light lunch & refreshments

Male Carer Event
Come and join us in Schull for a ‘Taste of Sailing’
on Monday 27th May at the Fastnet Marine and Outdoor Education Centre, Schull from 10.30 – 12.30.
The morning will begin with a Coffee and Scones followed by an introductory sail in Roaring Water Bay!

National Carers Week

CARER PAMPER DAY! Monday 10th June
Come along for a morning of pampering in the Maritime Hotel.
Morning starts with a tea/coffee at 10.30 followed by a swim, treatments and lunch
Treatment sessions will take place throughout the morning.
Mini facial - 30 min - Cleanse, tone and moisturise
Mini massage - 30 min- Shoulder and neck massage
Costs:

PATIENT TRANSFER & BACK CARE COURSE Saturday 15th June
Around 80% of us will have back pain at some stage during our lives. To help reduce the physical strain on your back we are holding a 1-day training course focusing on the practical elements of caring.
The course will focus on:
• Prevention of back pain
• The principles of safer moving & handling
• Promotion of independence
• Problem solving
• Dealing with the falling/fallen patient
• The use of moving & handling aids

Beara Support Group Meeting

Join us for a morning of Meditation and Relaxation on Monday 24th June in Dzogchen Retreat Centre from 10.30am – 2pm. Cost is €5. We will start the morning with Tea/Coffee and Scones. Then there will be a tour of the beautiful surroundings and a session of meditation followed by lunch.

West Cork Carers Support Group’s Support-line was established in 2001, recognising the isolation experienced by many Carers in the West Cork area. The aims of the Support-line are to:

Provide a listening ear & support to all Carers

Give information on benefits & entitlements

Refer Carers to other relevant sources of information and support

This is a confidential service which is often the first point of contact we have with Carers in the community.
The service also provides an on-going support system for all West Cork Carers Support Group members. If you have any queries or concerns about your caring, no matter how big or small please call 027 51731 on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 1pm.
